Teeth Whitening
A Simple Way to Refresh Your Smile
Teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments, helping to lift staining and brighten your natural smile. Tea, coffee, red wine, smoking and age all darken teeth over time. Professional whitening lifts that staining from inside the enamel, which a whitening toothpaste can’t do.
Harwood Dental Care is proud to be recognised as an Enlighten Regional Centre of Excellence — reflecting our experience in delivering predictable, premium whitening results with one of the UK’s leading whitening systems.
Our approach focuses on achieving natural-looking results while protecting your teeth and gums.
- Professional whitening planned and supervised by a dentist
- Natural-looking, even results
- Safe and controlled treatment
- Clear guidance throughout the process
Teeth Whitening
Why Professional Whitening is Different
In the UK, whitening gels strong enough to make a real difference can only be supplied by a dentist, or by a hygienist or therapist working to a dentist’s prescription. That’s why shop-bought kits tend to disappoint: by law, they contain far less active ingredient.
Before anything else, we check that your teeth and gums are healthy. Whitening on top of decay or gum disease can cause pain, so we sort those first. We’ll also tell you if crowns, veneers or fillings at the front of your mouth won’t match once your natural teeth are lighter.
Treatment is designed to gradually lighten your teeth while keeping sensitivity to a minimum. We prioritise comfort, safety, and a result that looks bright but natural.
Four Key Benefits of Enlighten
1. A B1 Shade Guarantee: A B1 shade guarantee. Enlighten guarantees that natural teeth will reach B1, the lightest natural shade on the dental shade guide, as long as you follow the treatment plan. The guarantee does not cover crowns, veneers or fillings
2. Lifestyle: No dietary or lifestyle changes are required before, during or after the treatment. You can continue to drink coffee or red wine.
3. Longevity: Results can last for many years, possibly even longer with a simple at-home top-up regimen.
4. Time: Works quicker – your smile shade will change quickly with minimal complications.

What to expect
At your first appointment, we check your teeth and gums, record your starting shade and take a scan for your custom trays. When the trays are ready, we fit them, show you how to use the gel, and supervise your first application, as the law requires.
You then wear the trays at home every night for two weeks. Most people notice a difference within the first week. You finish with a visit to the practice, where we complete the treatment and record your final shade.

Your questions answered
Yes, when carried out under dental supervision, whitening is considered safe for healthy teeth and gums. We always assess suitability first to protect your oral health.
Results vary depending on your starting shade and lifestyle habits. We aim for a natural-looking improvement rather than an artificial result.
Professional whitening systems are designed to be safe when used correctly. We provide clear instructions to minimise risks and protect enamel.
Some patients experience temporary sensitivity during treatment. If this occurs, we can adjust your plan to make the process more comfortable.
That depends mostly on what you eat and drink and whether you smoke. With an occasional top-up using your trays, many people keep their new shade for years. Without top-ups, expect it to fade gradually.
Whitening is suitable for most adults with healthy teeth and gums. We’ll confirm suitability during your consultation.
Whitening only affects natural tooth structure. We’ll advise if existing restorations may need reviewing after treatment.
Professional whitening is stronger, more controlled, and tailored to your teeth. Over-the-counter products are usually less effective and not supervised.
Most whitening systems are used over one to two weeks. We’ll explain your individual timeline clearly.
Yes, but smoking will stain your teeth again faster. If you’re planning to stop, it’s worth whitening afterwards.
Our aim is always a balanced, natural improvement. We guide you to a shade that suits your features.
