Dental Hygiene

Good dental hygiene is an essential part of good dental care. Not only does it ensure a comfortable and healthy mouth, it is also a preventative measure that greatly reduces the risk of further, more serious, problems occurring.

  • Reduce your risk of gum disease and bleeding
  • Enjoy fresher breath and a brighter smile
  • Reduce gum recession and sensitivity
  • Enjoy more secure teeth, reducing the chance of loose or drifting teeth

Dental Hygiene

At Harwood Dental Care, we believe that dental hygiene is an essential part of good oral health. The hygiene therapy provided by our highly qualified dental hygienists forms a central part of how our practice aims to keep you healthy. Our hygienists can help you tackle problems such as bad breath, bleeding gums, sensitivity, and much more. They are also oral health educators, able to equip you and your family with the skills to keep your own dental hygiene at its optimum.

We believe in a preventative approach to dental hygiene, and aim to prevent dental problems before they even occur. As well as treating existing oral diseases, it’s important for us to emphasise that hygiene therapy may also reduce the risk of developing several serious medical conditions: research has linked gum disease to arthritis, heart disease, strokes, bacterial lung disease, diabetes, premature births and low birth weight babies. A staggering 90 per cent of us suffer from some form of gum disease at some point in our lives but with good dental and hygiene care the risks can be easily controlled.

If you like your mouth to feel healthy and fresh, contact us today for information, or to book an appointment with one of our dental hygienists. Call us on 01204 304568 or email info@harwooddentalcare.co.uk.

Common Hygiene Questions

How often do I need to see my dental hygienist?

This will always depend on your individual needs, and our dental hygienists will always advise you on the best course of action. However, once every 6 months is a good average.

How long will my dental hygiene appointment take?

In order to ensure that you leave with your mouth in the best possible condition, please allow at least 30 minutes for your appointment.

Will it make my gums bleed?

Bleeding whilst brushing your teeth can be a sign of infection in the gums. While this is a common occurrence, it is always preferable to find treatment. Your dental hygienist will advise you on the best course of action during your hygiene appointment.

Why are hygiene appointments so important?

Dental hygiene is an essential element of good oral health. As well as treating existing problems, visits to the dental hygienist can greatly reduce the risk of future problems. Our hygienists can also advise you on the best methods for taking care of your own mouth.
