Emergency appointments in Bolton

Are you experiencing a dental emergency in Bolton? Are you looking for both pain relief and an effective solution to whatever is causing the pain, but you’re not sure if your concern constitutes a genuine emergency? We’ve put together a quick guide to help.

Dentists deal with urgent issues involving both your teeth and the soft tissue surrounding them. If you go to A&E with tooth or gum issues, you’ll only be referred to a dentist from there. It’s important that if your case is a genuine emergency, you get assistance quickly as a delay could lead not only to a worsening dental situation which requires more invasive treatment than it would’ve had you acted quicker, but it could also have a detrimental effect on your overall health.

Emergency dental situations at our dental practice in Bolton

If your tooth has been knocked out, there is a chance we can save the tooth -if you act quickly. If this happens to you, as well as ringing us here at our Bolton dental practice, you’ll need to find the tooth and rinse it. Try putting it back in the socket and holding it there until we can see you. If you can’t do this because you can’t make it fit, put the tooth in some milk and bring it to us that way.

If you think your tooth is infected, or you have an abscess, that can be a serious emergency. You will probably be in a lot of pain. We’ll be able to assess you over the phone. If the infection is not treated quickly, there is a chance it could spread. You don’t want it to enter your bloodstream and travel around your body! In the worst case scenario this condition can be life-threatening. Emergency root canal work will remedy the situation. This is when your dentist cleans up the infection.

If the tooth becomes loose or is pushed significantly out of alignment give us a call on the emergency number (if it’s out of office hours). Again we’ll assess you over the phone. A tooth that is cracked may also need to be seen urgently. This is because the tooth may be damaged inside and require treatment in order to save it.

Any injury to the mouth has the potential to be an emergency as well. When we speak to you on the phone, We’ll have a better idea of whether we need to see you or not.

If you feel you may be suffering from a potential dental emergency, in which case you may be bleeding, in pain, injured, have lost teeth, or experiencing a swelling in the mouth, please give us a call so that we can assess you. Please do not take aspirin or ibuprofen for the pain as this may cause excessive bleeding, meaning and may prevent us from carrying out vital and necessary emergency treatment.

Please bear in mind that unnecessary dental problems can be prevented by regular dental check ups. If you’re not currently registered with our Bolton dental practice give us a call to register today. Let us worry about your teeth on your behalf so you don’t have to.
