Is getting adult braces a wise choice to make?

A lot of our patients in Bolton choose to have adult braces and orthodontic treatment simply because their teeth have become misaligned over the years. As we age, our teeth tend to move and if you’ve had braces before, you will have had to wear a retainer for 2 years after.

Even if this has been the case, it still may have been possible for your teeth to have become crooked even after wearing your retainer, the outcome is worsened if you hadn’t worn the retainer after the teeth straightening process.

Adult orthodontics is a very common procedure, it seems that as adults our teeth have more of an impact on our daily lives than we noticed when we were children.

How might adult braces affect you and your daily routines:

  • Difficulty chewing and eating
  • Speech impediments
  • Jaw pain
  • Sleep apnoea
  • Grinding or clenching of teeth
  • Gum disease and tooth decay
  • Headaches

It might be that your teeth aren’t as bad as when you initially had braces, and so the treatment you have need not last an overly long time.

What range of braces do we offer?

There are a number of options for adult braces in our Bolton practice that you can choose from and discuss with your dentist. These options range from fixed braces, clear (or invisible) and speed.

To the different options of adult braces, please see our orthodontics page where you can see a number of braces we provide.

Adult braces don’t have to be an inconvenience, they can help with a lot of the problems stated above. If you are worried about your teeth moving again, speak to one of our experienced dentists and they will be able to advise you on the best course of action to take.
